South Korean Prime Minister Becomes Interim President
South Korean media reported that Han Deok-Soo has been elected as the country's acting president.
This comes as former President Yoon Seok-Yeol was removed from office.
In his first move after being elected as acting president of South Korea, Han Deok-Soo held a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden.
According to a statement issued by the office of Han Deok-Soo, "South Korea will carry out its foreign and security policies without disruption."
While Yoon's case is being transferred to the Constitutional Court, Han Deok-Soo, who Yoon had chosen as prime minister, was appointed as acting president in line with the South Korean constitution.
South Korea's parliament approved the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-Yeol on Saturday, December 14.
